Welcome to the Comic Book Fanatics DataBase.
Version 9.8
Copyright (C) 1992-93 by

All Rights are Reserved.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Ok you fanatics, here it is.
This program may be small in size, but it is powerful in results.
The following files should be with this package:
1. Comics.doc.
2. Comics.exe ( Main Program ).
3. Comics.trv ( The comics trivia questions and answers ).
4. Comics.lst ( Option 'L' from the main menu, a text file listing ).
5. Password.exe ( Which creates Comics.pwd ).
6. Report.doc ( Update on Bugs fixed and more! ).
7. Upgrade.exe ( Please, only run this file if you are upgrading from
version 9.4 to 9.5 or higher and run it ONLY once.
DO NOT run it every time a new version comes out unless
otherwise told too. )
Please read the Report.doc file for further info on additions and changes
that are not mentioned here.
Type 'Password' to setup your password then 'Comics'.
When it asks you to enter the comic name please enter it spelled correctly.
These Versions can now be run from any directory as long as the proper files
are in the directory. >>> * The shareware copy only holds 25 records. * <<<
The registered version will hold unlimited ( well I haven't tried the
unlimited part ) records. If you want the full program, please register today.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Menu Options are as follows :
A ... Add A Comic
Here is where you can start adding your comics to the database.
It will prompt you for another record to add until you choose the
option of 'N' for no. Use the backspace key to edit. All entries
whether it is 1 word or more, will be capitalized for you.
You must enter a comic name, it will not accept a space or just
pressing the enter key or you will be returned to the main menu.
For Grading Comics ( Condition ) use:
Poor .....: 1% - 4%, <-- Coverless Comics are included in the
Fair .....: 5% - 14%, POOR grade!
Good .....: 15% - 34%,
Very Good : 35% - 54%,
Fine .....: 55% - 74%,
Very Fine : 75% - 89%,
Near Mint : 90% - 97%,
Mint .....: 98% - 100%.
* The Above chart is only for reference use only.
May not be Complete or accurate, for everyone has their
own grading table.
U ... Update A Comic.
Here is where you can update your records as time go by.
Enter the name and comic number and to update, if it doesn't find
the record then you will be returned to the Main Menu.
V ... View All Comics.
Here is where you can view all your comics( starting at comic #1 )
to see if everything is ok. It will continue to prompt you to view
the next comic until you choose 'N' or until it reaches the last
comic.
S ... Search For A Comic.
Here is where you can search for a specific comic. It is almost the
same as View All Comics ( but with one comic in mind ). You can
search on full or partial name.
P ... Print All Comics.
Here is where all of your comic books will be printed out to the
printer. This is set only to LPT1. ( I have not tried it on other
printer ports yet so i do not know if it works on them yet. )
O ... Print One Comic.
Here is where you can print just one comic of your choice.
Not much here to say about this one, just like the Option P but with
one comic in mind.
C ... Create A New Database.
This will also create a new database for you if you wish, BUT BE
CAREFUL, IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A DATABASE AND YOU CHOOSE THIS ONE THEN
IT WILL DESTROY ALL DATA IN THE OLD DATABASE AND WRITE A NEW ONE OVER
IT, AND YOU CAN'T EVEN RECOVER THE OLD ONE, SO BE VERY CAREFUL WITH
THIS OPTION!!!. I also added password protection here so someone
can't erase ALL records on purpose. You can set your own password
by running the external program called Password.exe.
T ... Shell To Dos.
Here is where you can drop to dos and run another program if you wish
while the comic database is in memory. When you are done with what
you are doing then just type EXIT to return to the menu screen of the
comics program. I find that this is a nice feature to have.
X ... Exit To Dos.
Here is where you can properly exit to your system safely.
This is the RECOMMENDED choice to exit properly without damaging
your database, or program. It also makes a backup of your database.
B ... Statistics.
Here is where it shows you which disk drive you are on with the size
of the drive and how much has been used and how much is free.
Also how many comics are on record and the size of the Comics.dat
file. Also it will show you the total value or estimated worth of all
of your comics, all of the the 'Book Values' will be added together.
Also it will show you of how many comics are in certain conditions.
It also gives you the DOS version number, Date, Time and the number
of records in your database. If you want the complete size of disk
that you have and bytes free then specify which drive you are on
when you start the comics. ie:
Comics A
or
Comics B
or
Comics C
or whichever drive you are on. If no command line parameters
are specified then the default is drive C, even if you are on A drive.
I recommend that you make a batch file called COMIC.BAT and put:
comics A
or
comics B
or
comics C
M ... Mark/UnMark A Comic.
Here you enter the name of the comic you wish to be marked for
deletion. It will show you the record and give you a choice on
whether to mark it or not. You can also unmark marked records if
the database hasn't been packed yet.
L ... Make Complete Listing.
This is where it will read all of your comics and write them out
to a text file called 'Comics.lst'. It will append to the end some
statistics for you. It will also date stamp it too so you know when
it was last made.
Z ... Pack Database
This will delete all marked records for deletion.
E ... Comic Trivia
This is the fun part, here you can have the chance to enlighten
yourself in trivia questions. It will randomly ask you questions
on comic books, comic charcters and their abilities, 1st appearances,
group affiliations, etc. It will also keep score for you.
H ... ? Help ?
Online help for your support if needed. Easy to use.

Problems
If you find any problems or bugs please contact me at my BBS Below.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. This has not been tested on a monochrome, cga, or ega monitor.
2. The Print has not been tested on other ports other than LPT1.
3. Due to the fact that I do not have access to either of these.
